Bedroom Refresh
Regardless how simple or complex the project …
Mood Boards help bring the vision to life
For a ‘nautical’ theme - classic is key. Pinstripes, denim blue, crisp white and a nod to something nautical - in this case, sailboats
Before
After
f you’re dreaming of a space that feels fresh, invigorating, and inspired by the sea, it’s time to embark on a nautical-themed bedroom transformation! Here are some tips to help get you started …
Start with a color refresh!
And no, you don’t have to paint the walls!
Shades of blue, crisp white, sandy beige and perhaps a pop of red. You can incorporate most of the colors through soft materials (such as bedding, toss cushions, blankets, throws). Keep your walls a soft neutral that will work with any decor. The bedding!
In our bedroom, I used the same white duvet and white cotton euro pillows I had in my neutral theme room. I intentionally kept the bedding classic and neutral giving me the flexibility to change it up without having to spend alot of money. The sailboat sheets and stripe duvet used at the end of the bed gave a nod to nautical without going overboard (pardon the pun).Let’s not forget about the ‘extra’ cushions
There’s debate over how many cushions / pillows on a bed are too many? There probably is a number, but 8 is not it! After 2 sleeping pillows (x 2), a euro pillow (x 2) (that’s 6), I added 2 navy pillows and look how they make the bed pop! Cushions are an inexpensive way to dress up a bed (and change the look). Once you have the inserts (you can buy from amazon or ikea), you can easily switch them up by purchasing the covers only.A good rug will pull it all together!
I chose a jute rug with a navy border. I honestly debated whether or not to get a plain jute rug or one with the border. The navy border option really ties everything together and looks more intentional. However, that being said …. it also limits future ‘refreshes’ due to the ‘navy’ border.
What helped me pull the trigger? I asked … could ‘said’ rug be swapped out for another rug in the house? And a more neutral rug be used in the bedroom? Yes and Yes. The jute rug with navy border could be used in our great room or in the office. And if I should ever want to change things up again in our bedroom (as I know I will), I can swap out a more neutral rug.And the final point …
The bedroom looks so different with minimal $’s spent! The window treatments, lamps, headboard remain unchanged. The biggest splurge was the area rug (approx $450) and when I’m tired of it, I found two additional spaces in my home where it can be placed; so in my opinion, a good spend!
